On the weekend of the 5th of August, the UK scootering Championships, ScootGB, headed over the bridge to Wales to hold their Welsh leg of the series at the incredible RampWorld, Cardiff.
Of course, such a prestigious event did not go unnoticed by our riders, and a team consisting of Jamie Harris, Adam Powis and James Skipwith headed over to join in on the action.
As is tradition with ScootGB events, the venue saw a host of riders, ranging from under 8-year-old Novice riders, about to kick off their very first competition, all the way through to seasoned professional / elite riders of the sport, who would be well versed in contest riding, preparing to throw down for a chance to qualify through to the Grand Finals, taking place in a few month’s time.
First up, the Novice riders took to the stage, nervous, yet eager to get underway. The talent showcased by this group of riders was really high, and the level of riding certainly surprised the judges. This made it a tough category to judge, but awesome to watch! With this new generation of riders proving themselves on the battlefield, it was time for the Intermediate riders to take charge.
As usual, the Intermediate’s was a stacked category, with 14 riders turning out to compete in the 13+ category, each prepared to throw down to earn a spot on the podium! The competition was super tight, with several riders looking like they could take first place. In the end it came down to a matter of a few points, with all four of the ScootGB judging criteria, Difficulty, Diversity, Consistency, and Style, overlapping in favor of different riders… it really did make for a hectic finish with the crowd simply left guessing at who had pulled in front! With all said and done, it was none other than our very own Jamie Harris (@jamie_jack_2007) who ascended the podium in first place, with Evan Porter and Joe Crockett coming just behind, in 2nd and 3rd place respectively.
With that epic battle concluded, it was time to hand over the Jr.Pro and Pro / Elite riders. They had been chomping at the bit all day for their event, and it was finally time for them to show just what it takes to step into the most competitive competition category around!
The Jrs. (14yrs and under), stepped into the arena first, proving their mettle with some solid runs, throwing overhead and flip combos like nothing, before passing over to the older guys.
Pro / Elite is truly a category to behold, with nothing held back. These guys all want to win and will throw down hammers to make it happen. With part of the prize being qualification to the UK Championship finals, there was even more to play for this time around. The competition was fierce, and, as expected, the runs saw bangers thrown left right and center, with double overheads, crazy combos and flips taking the stage. When the smoke had cleared, RampWorld’s own Logan Orchard stood above the rest in 1st place, with Dogg legend Adam Powis (@adampowiss) finishing 2nd and Finn Mortimer taking 3rd. Our very own James Skipwith (@jxmes_skip) came in with the 4th place spot, narrowly missing out on the podium, but nailing down some solid runs either way!
With the day over, it was time to pack up and head home, preparing for the next stop which would see Junction4 Skatepark, Darwen, set the stage for the last ScootGB qualifier of the season… We hope to see you there on Sunday 3rd September!
As always, thanks to ScootGB for holding these events and to all of you, and our host skateparks for making it possible!
