DOGG SCOOTERS OWNER: JACK’S STORY
Hey! I'm Jack, the owner of Dogg Scooters. Dogg has been a part of the core scooter scene since 2009, and today the privilege of running one of the UK’s longest-running specialist scooter stores falls to me. From purchasing and website development, to marketing, events and worthing with some of the biggest brands and riders in scootering, my role touches every area. This is a little more about how I got here, what goes on behind the scenes and what I want Dogg Scooters to become.
MEET JACK
I'm Jack Maker, owner and director of Dogg Scooters.
Being involved in every decision that shapes the shop from choosing what products and brands to stock to improving the website and marketing and everything in between, is a responsibility that I love to have. It is an incredible privilege to be able to take the Dogg Scooters brand to the future.
But I'm no random punter that's acquired Dogg as some large portfolio of niche retail stores, I've been a scooter rider since I was 11 years old, I've grown up with the shop constantly on the computer, and through family involvement in the business, I've worked my way from picking parts, and wrapping custom builds, all the way to the top.

Dogg existed long before I became the person running it. Here’s how my journey with the business has developed.
2001
Birth of Jack
31st of March, born and bread into the Maker family.
2009
Birth of DOGG
Started from a bedroom in Cornwall by the Carter brothers.
2010
Birth of Greenover
Distribution center, set up by Dan Maker (my dad).
2011
Jack starts scootering
Grit Scooters is welcomed to Greenover, and I get one of the first 'Grit Eilte's' in the country.
2014
Greenover acquires Dogg
Greenover buys Dogg, and employees the Carter brothers to continue running the store.
2016
JACK JOINS DOGG
At 15, I begin in the warehouse as tea boy and scooter wrapper.
2018
JACK MOVES INTO ADMIN
Basic jobs like product listing, answering the phone and some emailing.
2020
Jack takes on responsibility
Now looking after events the team riders. Not that there was many events upcoming!
2022
JACK TAKES on operations
At this point, I look after most of the operations of Dogg from customer service to marketing.
2025
Greenover closes, Jack buys Dogg
Dad's looking to retire... sort of... so I buy Dogg from the Greenover group.
What I Actually Do at Dogg
Being the owner of Dogg doesn't mean spending every day riding scooters, far from it unfortunately. My role is mostly about making sure the business continues forward and keeping true to the values of Dogg.
Product choice & Purchasing
I oversee all of our product buying and stock planning, deciding what we bring into Dogg and working with suppliers and brands across the scooter industry.
WEBSITE & ECOMMERCE
A lot of my time goes into improving doggscooters.com, from product information and compatibility to guides, collections and the overall shopping experience.
MARKETING & GROWTH
I work on Dogg's wider marketing strategy, including SEO, advertising, email, content and how we introduce the business to new riders.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
I'm ultimately responsible for where Dogg goes next, new projects, partnerships, events, new ideas and making sure we're continuing to improve as a business.
WHY I CARE ABOUT DOGG
What makes Dogg so interesting to me is that there is always something I can improve and work on.
Scootering is a pretty small industry, which means true specialists have a great opportunity to contribute rather than simply sell products.
I've grown up with Dogg at the forefront of the core scootering community in the UK, spending hours building custom scooters on the website, sticker bombing my helmet in Dogg stickers and watching the the sponsored riders. I want to be able to continue that legacy for generations to come.
Making Dogg truly useful to riders is always on my mind, as it was such a big part of my childhood. Whether that's creating guides, explaining compatibility, or working with events and producing content.
If we can build a successful business, while also making scootering easier to get into, giving riders fun new opportunities to get involved and supporting those who make the sport what it is, then we're doing something worthwhile.
Where Dogg is going now
Today, my focus is on making Dogg better at every level, from the products we stock and the information on the website, to the events, partnerships and opportunities we create around the sport. Dogg has already been part of scootering for a long time, and I want to make sure it continues to be for the next generation of riders too.
