Stunt Scooter Parts Explained: The Complete Guide
Stunt scooters may look simple, but they’re made up of several key components that work together to create a strong, smooth and responsive setup. In this guide we'll explain the main parts of a stunt scooter, what each component does, and how they affect the way a stunt scooter rides.
Parts of a Stunt Scooter: The Breakdown
Each part of a stunt scooter works together to create a strong and responsive setup. The bars connect to the fork through the compression system, while the deck forms the main platform riders stand on. Wheels and bearings allow the scooter to roll smoothly, while the clamp and headset keep everything securely connected.
In this diagram you will find the all the parts clearly labeled and named. Read on to find out exactly what each part is and does.
Scooter Deck
The deck is the main platform riders stand on. It connects the scooter’s fork, wheels and bars together.
Decks vary in:
- width
- length
- weight
Wider decks offer more stability and grind space, while narrower decks are lighter and easier to spin.
Scooter Bars
Bars control the scooter and are one of the most important factors for comfort and control.
Bars vary in:
- height
- width
- material
Aluminium bars are lighter and popular for park riding, while steel bars are stronger and often preferred for street riding.
Scooter Grips
Grips sit on the handlebars and provide comfort and control while riding.
Most grips are made from soft rubber and are designed to absorb vibrations while riding at the skatepark.
Scooter Clamp
The clamp holds the bars tightly onto the fork and compression system.
Clamps come in different sizes depending on the compression system used. The majority of IHC/HIC clamps are 2 bolt, where as SCS are 4 bolt.
Scooter Headsets
The headset is the assemble that allows the bars and fork to spin smoothly. This includes compression rings, bearings and a top cap.
High-quality headsets use sealed bearings for smooth bar spins and long-lasting performance.
Scooter Forks
The fork connects the bars to the front wheel.
Forks also support the scooter’s compression system and must match the wheel size and compression type.
Scooter Wheels
Wheels affect speed, grip and ride feel.
Most stunt scooters use 110mm wheels, although some riders prefer 120mm or wide wheels for slightly more speed or grip.
Scooter Brakes
The brake sits above the rear wheel and allows riders to slow down safely. Pretty easy right!
Most stunt scooters use flex fender brakes, which are lightweight and durable. There are also options for fixed fenders which are simply to keep your foot from touching the wheel, not braking.
Park Riding
Park riders usually prefer lighter and smaller setups that make tricks easier to control in the air. Park scooters often use aluminium or titanium bars and slightly smaller decks to reduce weight and improve manoeuvrability. A lighter scooter helps riders spin faster, learn tricks more easily, and deal with over head tricks with better control.
Street Riding
Street riders typically prefer stronger and more balanced setups designed to handle heavier impacts and technical tricks. Street scooters often feature steel bars and wider decks, providing extra durability and more foot space for grinds and landings. These setups prioritise strength and stability, making them ideal for ledges, rails and rougher riding environments.

Which Scooter Parts Matter Most?
For beginners, the most important scooter components to consider are the deck size, bar height, wheel size, and compression system. These parts have the biggest impact on how a scooter feels to ride, affecting comfort, control, and overall performance as riders learn new tricks and progress at the skatepark.
